More Contact. More Precision. Same Comfort.

The Elite 16mm Peanut Mouth Snaffle is the choice for riders who want a more refined, responsive bit without sacrificing horse comfort. The slimmer 16mm mouthpiece concentrates pressure more precisely than a thicker bit, making it ideal for horses that are further along in their training and ready for a lighter, more nuanced contact.

Like all German silver bits, this snaffle encourages natural salivation and a relaxed jaw — the hallmarks of a horse that's truly working through the contact rather than against it.

Key Features

  • 16mm mouthpiece — slimmer diameter for more precise, targeted pressure; suited to horses with more mouth room or those in more advanced training
  • German silver (copper-zinc alloy) — promotes salivation and bit acceptance; warm and inviting in the horse's mouth
  • Peanut (lozenge) link — eliminates nutcracker action; allows each rein to work independently for cleaner lateral aids
  • Stainless steel rings — strong, rust-resistant, and low-maintenance; built to last through years of daily riding
  • Smooth finish throughout — no rough edges or sharp points

Who Is This Bit For?

  • Horses in intermediate to advanced flatwork or jumping training
  • Horses with a larger tongue or more space in the mouth that benefit from a slimmer mouthpiece
  • Riders stepping up from an 18mm bit as their horse's training progresses
  • Horses that go well in a double-jointed snaffle and are ready for more refined contact

16mm vs. 18mm — Which Should You Choose?

  • 18mm — thicker, softer pressure; best for young, green, or sensitive horses
  • 16mm — slimmer, more precise pressure; best for horses further along in training with an established contact

When in doubt, start with the 18mm and move to the 16mm as your horse's training develops. Consult your trainer if you're unsure.

Sizing & Fit Guide

Measure your horse's mouth width from corner to corner. The bit should sit approximately 1/4" beyond each side of the lips.

  • Small pony: 4" – 4.5"
  • Large pony / small horse: 4.5" – 5"
  • Average horse: 5" – 5.5"
  • Large horse: 5.5" – 6"

Care

Rinse after each use. Buff with a soft cloth to maintain the German silver finish. Avoid abrasive cleaners on the mouthpiece.
